PRESS RELEASE

Engine 461 is a 1995 Pierce Arrow originally built for the United States Marine Corp and was stationed at Barstow Marine Base.

It was refurbished and modernized in 2014. It came to Lincoln County Fire District 4 through the Federal Firefighter Property (FFP) program when it came up for surplus. It was facilitated by Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) who manages the FFP program in the state.

The FFP is typically utilized for taking surplus military heavy vehicles and repurposing them for wildland firefighting. In this instance, the surplus vehicle was a structure engine.

District 4 has been talking with DNR about using the FFP program to replace aging wildland apparatus. Although DNR does not typically facilitate structure equipment, they knew we had a need and were able to connect us with this engine.

We are grateful to DNR and are pleased to be able to improve the equipment available to protect the Edwall and surrounding communities.

Engine 461:

  • 1995 Pierce Arrow
  • Type 1 Structure Engine
  • 1,250-gallons-per-minute (gpm) pump
  • 725-gallon tank
  • 1,000-gpm remote monitor
  • Crew capacity – six
