Walker County (GA) Fire Rescue Adds Three New Pumpers

Walker County Fire Rescue (WCFR) recently put three new Class “A” pumpers into service, the city said in a Facebook post Tuesday. The new pumpers were funded in the 2020 SPLOST and were long overdue. The last time Walker County purchased a new pumper was in 2009, pushing the average age of the fleet to around 23 years.

WCFR formed an Apparatus Committee in 2020 to design a safe and cost-effective pumper that would serve the needs of the community. The seven-member team has over 100-combined years of fire service, with a majority of those years in Walker County.

A Request for Proposal was issued in mid-2021 and the Board of Commissioners approved the $1.3 million purchase at their Oct. 28, 2021 meeting.
