Frederick County (MD) Fire and Rescue Adds Four New Apparatus

The following was posted on Frederick County (MD) Fire & Rescue’s Facebook page Thursday, Sept. 28:

Frederick County Fire and Rescue Services is very excited to put four new pieces of apparatus in service.

A committee of eight fire service personnel worked for over two years to design and oversee the construction of the new units.

Three of the new units are Pierce Enforcer pumpers. The units were manufactured at the Pierce plant in Appleton, Wisconsin. The pumpers seat five firefighters, carry 3,325 feet of hose, 750 gallons of water and can pump 1,500 gallons of water per minute. They have many of the same safety features as a new car including front and side airbags in the cab, ABS brakes, traction control, rollover stability control, independent front suspension and an air ride rear suspension.

The fourth unit is a Pierce/Kenworth high capacity tanker. The unit was manufactured at the Pierce plant in Bradenton, Florida. The new tanker carries 3,000 gallons of water, can pump 1,500 gallons of water per minute and carries equipment to assist in moving water in the areas of the county that do not have fire hydrants.

The new units have been assigned to:

  • Paramedic Engine 23 – Junior Fire Company, Station 2 on North Market Street in Frederick
  • Paramedic Engine 311 – Westview Fire Station 31 on New Design Road in Frederick
  • Engine 102 – Guardian Hose Company, Station 10 in Thurmont
  • Tanker 10 – Guardian Hose Company, Station 10 in Thurmont

The new pumpers at Stations 2 and 31 are also equipped with advanced life support equipment and supplies as well as a Paramedic and have the designation of “Paramedic-Engines” and can respond to assist on critical medical emergencies.

A special thanks to our amazing friend and photographer extraordinaire : Trevor James for capturing the newest members our fleet.
