PRESS RELEASE

As we say goodbye to the old ENG2INE, we welcome its replacement. It’s not brand new but it is new to Beaver VFD. The new ENG2INE is a 2004 Pierce Dash pumper. It is capable of transporting eight firefighters to an emergency call.

It is fully equipped to handle multiple types of emergency situations and it is equipped to meet the requirements set forth by the West Virginia State Fire Commission and the Insurance Services Office (ISO), which regulates insurance ratings for residential and commercial properties in our area and ultimately dictates how much a property owner will pay for insurance.

We are currently finishing up installation of our equipment on this apparatus so we can train our engineers to operate and place the truck in service.

This apparatus comes to us from the Lester VFD in Raleigh County. It no longer met the needs of that community and it was a perfect fit for Beaver VFD. In turn they used the funds to purchase a smaller apparatus that better suited the needs of their area.

Again these project would not have been possible without continued support of the Raleigh County Fire Levy by the taxpayers. We appreciate your continued votes in favor of the levy which keeps our doors open and allows us to provide services to our communities and citizens we serve.

On Aug. 30, the Beaver VFD took our 1993 International pumper, aka ENG2INE, on its last voyage. This apparatus, purchased new for Beaver VFD 30 years ago, has served not only the citizens of the Beaver VFD response area but all of Raleigh and surrounding counties.

Since the inception of the fire levy in 2012, ENG2INE has been serviced and maintained with fire levy funds. Our Board of Directors and membership have decided to keep your tax dollars working for our citizens and in our community.

ENG2INE has been donated to Raleigh County Schools for educational purposes at the Academy of Careers and Technology. While this equipment will primarily benefit the Emergency and Firefighting Management Program it will also benefit the Automotive Technology, Diesel Equipment Technology, Electrical Technician and Welding Programs as they will provide maintenance and repairs for this apparatus.

We would like to thank the taxpayers of Raleigh County for their continued support of the Raleigh County Fire Levy as we work to provide the highest level of services available within our capabilities.

We also urge anyone who is interested in volunteering or helping out in their local communities to consider joining your local volunteer fire department. Volunteer units around the nation are experiencing severe staffing shortages and are in need of volunteers to respond and assist others in their time of need.
