Manufacturer’s Spotlight: US Fire Apparatus

Manufacturer’s Spotlight

Chris Ferrara is a fire apparatus manufacturing community mainstay and, since selling his previous company, has established a successful industrial fire equipment builder and recently reentered the fire apparatus market with his newest venture, US Fire Apparatus.

Editor in Chief Chris Mc Loone recently asked Ferrara a few questions about his new company, the fire apparatus market, and more.

CM: Please provide a brief history of US Fire Apparatus.

CF: After selling my previous company, I embarked on a new venture called US Fire Pump. It swiftly gained momentum, establishing itself as the premier industrial fire equipment builder and the largest emergency response organization in the nation. At that point, I had decided to move on from the fire apparatus industry, not intending to delve into truck construction again. However, to my surprise, former customers persisted in reaching out to me, emphasizing the dire need for a builder capable of efficiently constructing trucks with the swiftness that is currently lacking in the industry. Their persistent requests inspired me to launch US Fire Apparatus and address this pressing demand.

CM: What makes US Fire Apparatus unique in the fire apparatus arena?

CF: What sets US Fire Apparatus apart in the fire apparatus industry is our unwavering focus on our people. I firmly believe that building quality trucks requires exceptional individuals. Hence, I have assembled an extraordinary team of professionals who possess extensive experience in the field. Their expertise and dedication are the driving force behind our success.

By harnessing the collective talent and knowledge of our team, we have meticulously orchestrated the crucial elements necessary for fire departments to efficiently acquire new fire trucks, all while providing them with the exemplary customer service they rightfully deserve. We understand the urgency and importance of equipping fire departments with reliable apparatus, and our team is committed to delivering solutions that meet and exceed their expectations.

Ultimately, it is our exceptional team that sets US Fire Apparatus apart, allowing us to stand out in the fire apparatus arena and provide fire departments with a unique combination of quality trucks and outstanding customer support.

CM: How has US Fire Apparatus been challenged when it comes to parts shortages and lead times?

CF: US Fire Apparatus has indeed faced challenges when it comes to parts shortages and lead times. However, we have proactively addressed these challenges by leveraging the strong relationships we have established with our vendors in the past. These relationships have proven invaluable in navigating through potential parts shortages and minimizing delays.

By maintaining close ties with our trusted vendors, we have been able to effectively manage our supply chain and ensure that we have access to the necessary components to build our fire trucks. This strategic approach has put us in a favorable position, enabling us to deliver our products to customers in record time.

While parts shortages and lead times can present obstacles, our commitment to maintaining strong relationships and proactively managing our supply chain has allowed us to overcome these challenges and continue providing timely and efficient delivery of fire trucks to our valued customers. In addition, we have made a financial commitment to stock large quantities of parts not only for work in progress but with the future in mind, so that we can greatly improve on industry delivery times.

CM: Do you have any advice for fire departments navigating the current purchasing landscape?

CF: Absolutely! I have some valuable advice for fire departments as they navigate the current purchasing landscape. First, if you are seeking quick builds without the extensive waiting period of 24-36 months, I strongly encourage you to reach out to us. Our dedicated team is fully prepared to assist you and ensure that you receive your desired fire truck in a timely manner.

At US Fire Apparatus, we understand the urgency and importance of equipping fire departments with the necessary apparatus efficiently. To address this need, we have made a commitment to the industry by keeping chassis in stock, allowing us to expedite the construction process. By having ready-to-go chassis available, we can significantly reduce the lead time, enabling you to receive your truck promptly.

So, my advice to fire departments is to consider alternatives and not limit themselves to the lengthy waiting periods commonly associated with purchasing fire trucks. Give us a call, and our experienced team will guide you through the process, ensuring that you receive a high-quality truck within a reasonable timeframe. We are dedicated to providing solutions that meet your needs and exceed your expectations.

CM: What keeps you up at night?

CF: What keeps me up at night is the realization that there are fire departments and communities that are still unequipped because of delivery delays that have become the “new industry standard.” It is deeply concerning to know that public safety is at stake because of these delays.

The very reason we are here today, passionately discussing this issue, is because we recognize the critical importance of equipping fire departments with the necessary apparatus to protect their communities. Public safety should never be compromised because of extended lead times and delivery challenges.

At US Fire Apparatus, we are driven by a sense of responsibility to address this pressing issue. We are committed to providing efficient solutions that ensure fire departments and communities receive the equipment they need without unnecessary delays. It is our mission to contribute to public safety by delivering high-quality fire trucks in a timely manner so that no community is left vulnerable because of equipment shortages.

Rest assured, the urgency and significance of this matter are constantly at the forefront of our minds. We are dedicated to making a positive impact and ensuring that fire departments and communities have the necessary resources to protect and serve their residents.
