PRESS RELEASE

The Fairfax Fire Department is pleased to announce that we have been awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) in the amount of $205,940.00. This grant will fund the replacement of all our self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

With this grant all current SCBA packs, spare bottles, and masks will be brought up to current NFPA standards and provide the latest technology to keep our members safe. Our existing SCBA packs were more than 20 years old and ongoing maintenance efforts could not provide the opportunity this grant does to overhaul our essential equipment.

The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations.

Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources necessary for protecting the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
