Oxford (OH) Buys $652K Pumper From Home State Company

The Oxford (OH) Fire Department has put in service a new $652,980 pumper built by Sutphen with the Miami University paying a third of the cost, according to a report published by Journal-News.

It replaces a 2000 pumper that the department says was ready for replacement, according to the report, that added the new apparatus has considerably more compartment space than old unit.

The new truck has a 750-gallon tank with a 1,750-gpm pump and a remote-controlled deck gun and an SCBA refilling station.

Oxford Fire Chief John Detherage told the newspaper that it was important to him and the department to deal with a local company in nearby Columbus, to “keep the dollars in the state.” He also told the paper that he appreciates that Sutphen is a family own business with decades of stable operation.
