Searchlight Reaches 1-Million Candlepower

Streamlight is making a new 1-million candlepower, high-intensity, handheld, searchlight capable of illuminating objects one mile away.

The company said its high intensity discharge (H.I.D.) LiteBox also has the peripheral capability to illuminate an entire scene and is equipped with navigation L.E.D.s for low-light maneuvering. The main beam is a 35-watt Xenon lamp.

Representatives of Streamlight, based in Eagleville, Pa., demonstrated the heavy-duty, 12-volt rechargeable LiteBox inside a tent designed to simulate a smoke-filled environment at the Fire Department Instructors Conference in Indianapolis in April.
